Top 7 Benefits of Waxing Your Face for Smoother Skin

While there are many ways to remove unwanted facial hair, waxing is often considered the most effective way to do so.

Over the years, many have come to realize that it has become one of the most effective hair removal methods for those seeking long-lasting results. The practice dates to 3000 B.C but has become a popular choice for both men and women since the 1990s.

Many are drawn to the long-lasting results of regular waxing, as it completely removes hair directly from the shaft. However, many are prone to continue using it, as it allows people to enjoy smoother skin for a longer period compared to shaving.  Not only that, but people who wax their face can finally find some reprieve from some of the side effects of shaving, such as razor burn, ingrown hairs, and pesky nicks and cuts.

Wax can be used anywhere, but it’s perfect for the face. It has become the antidote to unwanted hair, including peach fuzz on the upper lip, eyebrows, or any facial hair you might want to get rid of. The hair removal method has quickly become a staple in many people’s beauty routines, not only helping with facial hair but also their skin. We at Glossed Over have come to love face waxing, and we found a few reasons why you should as well.

1. Facial Waxing Removes Hair from the Root for Longer-Lasting Smoothness

What I love most about waxing is how long it lasts. No more daily shaving, just weeks of soft, hair-free skin. Photo credit: likesarah._makeupartist/Instagram

Before getting into full face waxing, I mainly used an eyebrow razor to shave my entire face. While it got the job done, I often found that the hair grew back pretty fast, making it a constant chore. While this might be okay for some people, I was looking for an option that slowed the hair growth completely.

Waxing works best because it attacks the hair follicles.  The waxing treatment removes the entire hair, which allows people to wait 2-3 weeks before they need to wax again. In comparison, people who shave their faces could find themselves removing their facial hair every 2-3 days, because it only removes the hair that can be seen and felt at the surface. This could be a nightmare for sensitive skin, because shaving can strip skin’s natural oils and cause dryness and irritation.

2. Waxing Your Face Doubles as Gentle Exfoliation

After adding facial waxing to my routine, I immediately noticed a difference in my skin. This is because waxing is a great way to gently exfoliate the skin. The hair removal method can get rid of dead and flaky skin, revealing the beautiful, smooth skin that was hiding underneath. When it comes to your face, it’s important to get rid of dead skin as it can often lead to clogged pores, ingrown hairs, and breakouts.

3. Get a Flawless Finish: How Waxing Preps Your Skin for Makeup

Anyone who is a makeup lover should make sure to incorporate waxing into their facial hair removal routine. When applying foundations or powders, the fuzz on your face can create an uneven appearance that can be harder to cover up with standard products. Not only that, but hair often traps oil, which breaks down makeup faster and ruins your look. However, waxing your face not only mitigates this issue for longer but creates a smooth base that could have you looking great for hours on end. Not only that, but removing the hair makes for a smoother appearance and a flawless base.

4. Say Goodbye to Razor Bumps: Waxing Lowers the Risk of Ingrown Hairs

One thing that won me over about waxing was the fact that it helped me with ingrown hairs. The pesky bumps typically occur when a hair grows back into the skin after previously being removed. Ingrown hairs are typically inflamed and cause redness and skin irritation. These can be super painful, especially when they show up on sensitive areas around the face. However, when I started waxing, I noticed an immediate difference.  This is because when the hair is removed, it tends to grow back with a tapered edge instead of a blunt edge, which often occurs from shaving. This makes the regrowth process much easier on the skin.

However, it’s important to note that waxing alone is not the cure-all. For the best results, the routine you do both before and after makes a big difference on the skin. Before you wax, make sure to exfoliate your face 1-2 days before your appointment. Afterwards, it’s important to incorporate soothing products like chamomile to calm the skin. Once 48 hours pass, you can exfoliate again, helping to prevent ingrown hairs from appearing in the future.

5. Consistent Facial Waxing Can Result in Finer Regrowth

Another plus that I noticed was that the new hair grew much finer and thinner over time. This is because every time we remove hair through waxing, we weaken its connection to the blood supply in the body. This is crucial for limiting the nutrients getting to the hair, which effects hair growth. While we all have different hair growth cycles, most people seem to notice the difference after the first wax.

While you might not be hair-free anytime soon, within 6 months most people tend to notice the hair is a lot sparser than when they began.

6. Waxing Can Help Decongest Pores and Minimize Acne

Those who deal with acne could also benefit from waxing their face. This is because the hair removal process gets rid of dirt and oil that was previously trapped in the skin. Removing these impurities from the skin can get rid of clogged pores, leading to your skin looking and feeling fresh and polished.

However, it’s important to note that waxing is not a replacement for proper skincare. While it can definitely help, it’s important to use products that will upkeep the health of your skin. Waxing is only a great additive for the products you’re already using. That’s because once the layer of dead skin is removed, it can lead to your skin being much more receptive to other skincare products.

7. Facial Waxing Is a Low-Maintenance, Cost-Effective Hair Removal Option

The primary reason to start shaving your face is that it saves a significant amount of time. Waxing your face makes it so you will only have to think about it once a month vs every few days. This can make anybody’s routine so much easier, and helps simplify the process. As time goes on, you might even notice there are far fewer touch-ups, which means you can save money, while still getting amazing results.

Facial waxing is one of the best ways to remove unwanted hair. Not only are you getting rid of peach fuzz, but you also get the added benefit of improving your skin texture and overall skin appearance. This facial hair removal method doesn’t just provide long-lasting results, but also helps exfoliates dead skin cells and reduces the risk of ingrown hairs. Once your wax session is over, you’re left with smooth, hairless skin that makes your beauty routine feel effortless.

Whether you’re targeting fuzzy areas like the upper lip or eyebrows, or just want to maintain a clear, glowing complexion, regular waxing can make a noticeable difference. The many benefits of facial waxing make it more than just a grooming step—it’s a skincare upgrade.

Try it for yourself, and you might find that a monthly wax treatment becomes your go-to solution for soft, radiant skin.
